What we are about

Our mission, team, and resources

We help others experience, embrace, and enjoy the story they were made for.

Everything we do is centered on Jesus. Whether our podcast, classes, or Institute programs, our hope is to help others fall more in love with Jesus by seeing Jesus at the center of their story.

Ten Napel

Meet the Teacher

Derek Mathews lives in North Dallas with his wife, Mikaela, and two boys, Judah and Bennett. Throughout his nearly two decades in vocational ministry, he has taught God’s Word in order for others to experience, embrace, and enjoy the love of God for them through sermons, curriculum, devotionals, mentorship, leadership training programs, and Institute programs.

He graduated with honors with his Masters in Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary and wrote his final thesis on ministry training programs. Since then, he has led and launched these programs in churches for individuals at every stage in their walk with Jesus, guiding them through the story of Scripture, theological topics, and the practicals of ministry and life. He has seen first hand what happens in someone's life when they simply let the Word of God inform their hearts and minds.

For the last ten years, a small dream became a clear vision. Now, his desire is to expand the way we share the story of the Scriptures. Drawing from his years of experience, Derek and the Storyverse Team are committed to creating spaces, online and in person, for people to see Jesus more clearly.

Derek has a unique gift as a teacher to make complex ideas simple and brings a deep joy, love, and passion to what many might perceive as strictly academic.

On a typical weekend, you can find Derek enjoying a good story, nerding out on some movie, woodworking, or being out in nature with his family. If you follow the project long, you will definitely hear a few superhero illustrations and maybe one or two Harry Potter references.
